After experiencing design teaching, overseas study and architectural research in the Department of Architecture of Southeast University in the 1990s, Professor Zhang Lei established Zhang Lei Architecture Studio in Nanjing University in 2001, shifting the focus of his work to design practice. In 2009, Professor Zhang Lei resigned from the Dean of the Institute of Architectural Planning and Design of Nantah University and the Deputy Dean of the School of Architecture, and founded Zhang Lei United Architects ZL ;In 2013, Ms. Lei Xiaohua and Professor Zhang Lei founded Yishe Shared Culture (Yunxi Museum Hotel Brand,LAVA Lab life aesthetics brand), to carry out the creation and management practice of contemporary rural series; in 2021, based on the 20-year development of Zhang Lei Associated Architects, Zhang Lei and Lei Xiaohua jointly founded Zhang Lei Design ResearchazLa (aliedzhang &Leiarchitects), to further explore basic buildings and unlock cultural codes.
As a well-known architectural design institution rooted in Nanjing and facing the whole country, Zhang Lei Design and Research has completed more than 200 designs in the past 20 years. The firm has more than 100 professional technical and design assistants in architectural design, interior design, landscape design, etc.; the scope of work includes planning, planning, architecture, interior, landscape, furniture and accessories design; the depth of design covers schematic design, preliminary design, and Construction drawing design for architecture, interior, landscape, structure, mechanical and electrical majors.
